Natalie Z asked:
I am the victim of fraud and have several inaccurate charges on my credit, which I am working to remove. It’s lowered my FICO score to 590…not so hot.
In the meantime, I am having a hard time getting credit. I’d like to get a new credit card, but it seems I’m having very bad luck.
Any thoughts?

590 is considered Bad Credit. The only type of credit card you would be able to get is a SECURED CREDIT CARD. Wait until you have fixed your credit & all the inaccurate charges have been cleared up before you try applying again.
I see this so often. People use others people credit to make ends meet. Wait till the fraudulent charges have been removed, then apply. Also try calling the card issuer and asking i you have proof that these are not your debts, can they issue a card. Make sure you dispute these charges on all three credit beaurus and also file a police report.
FYI. I have a 760 credit score and applied for a credit card (not my first). Well, I was approved for the card, but at 15% interest, way too high. I called them to ask why, and they said that they look at many things besides credit score. They never did say exactly why though. I cancelled the credit card right away. Credit card companies make up their own rules to satify themselves, and I believe that applies to your situation too. It’s not all about the FICO score, it’s about how credit card companies are in a sleazy, dirty, league of their own. Your fraud situation is unfortunate, but don’t bet on companies giving you the card you want, even if the situation is cleared up.
No, I would recommend going to this site, I know someone that recently got a secured card with a 540 fico score.
In my experience there are two types of Bad Credit Credit Cards. One is a secured card, and the other has a much higher rate of interest. Both can be used to rebuild your credit worthiness after getting back on your feet. Secured credit cards are great for rebuilding your credit. You send the credit card company a pre deposit amount set by the company
no there are plenty off cards that you can get with that score. in fact you are only about 30 point off getting a capital one card. First premier, orchard, credit one, salute, aspen are just some you can get. However these often have high fee associated with them. i.e you can get a card with first premier with a limit of 300 however you original credit would be 150 because of the fees they charge. I have one of each card and I am paying the fees and my score has gone up. I consider the fee the price I have to pay for being irresponsible and screwing my score up in the first place. has a section for poor credit. you can apply there and get instantly approved. Good luck and remember to review the fees before you sign up for the card.
