I have about 5 charged off credit cards that were charged off in the last year. I have nothing positive on my credit report. I am finding it extremely hard to find an apartment. My income is not incredibly high. I make about $1550 a month before taxes.

There must be places available. Don’t most folks in Pitt have poor credit?
A lot of times there are private owners renting apartments or condos that don’t even do credit checks.
Look in the South Side Reporter. That’s where I got my rentals from back when I was a renter.
They have a lot of cheap housing. You may have to live in a bad neighborhood or crappy house until your credit improves.
Have you ever rented before? Maybe by providing a few good references, most owners will overlook your poor credit, if you can show you are a good tenant.
Otherwise, you can try offering a higher security deposit, such as 2 months rent. Legally, they can only hold the extra deposit for 1 year (meaning if you renew your lease, they must refund any deposit in excess of 1 month’s rent).
You also have a better chance with a private landlord, as opposed to a property management company. However, some private landlords do not maintain their properties as well as others, so you might want to ask for referrals from other people you know that are renting.
Good luck!
